Olympus America Inc. Senior Specialist, Environmental Health & Safety in Bartlett, Tennessee

Job Duties::

You will contribute to our mission by implementing Environmental, Health and Safety management systems:

Health and Safety:

  • Oversee occupational health and safety matters related to facility personnel; develop and maintain a systematic occupational health and safety management program to facilitate:

  • Identification of occupational health and safety hazards

  • Utilization of physical safeguards and employee personal protective equipment to control such hazards

  • Training of employees in good health and safety management practices

  • Investigation of accidents and occupational injuries and illnesses

  • Compliance with all applicable health and safety legislation.

  • Evaluate deficiencies; establish and implement written policies and procedures; audit to assess and ensure compliance with policies and procedures; and provide requisite training.

  • Manage general compliance matters and projects as necessary, and provide assistance to ensure compliance with relevant policies, and other federal laws relating to health and safety (e.g. transportation of hazardous materials).

  • Serve as primary contact for the development of the site’s Health and Safety Management System to attain ISO 45001 certification.

Environmental:

  • Oversee environmental matters related to Olympus facilities and products; develop and maintain a systematic environmental management program to facilitate:

  • Assessment of environmental impacts of products, facilities and operations

  • Engagement of Olympus management and staff in activities related to reducing environmental impacts

  • Compliance with applicable environmental legislation.

  • Serve as a contact for Olympus regarding Olympus products and facility related environmental compliance issues; monitor environmental laws that impact Olympus products and operations; evaluate deficiencies in this area; establish and implement written policies and procedures; audit to assess and ensure compliance with policies and procedures; provide requisite training.

  • Serve as primary contact for the site’s Environmental Management System to attain ISO 14001:2015 certification.

Training:

  • Develop compliance and other identified training, as necessary.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements::

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in an applicable scientific discipline (such as Environmental Engineering, or Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety); Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety is preferred.

  • Ability to obtain a professional credential such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP)or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or equivalent within 2 years.

*Minimum of 5 years of experience dealing with EHS policy and compliance issues.

​* Ability and willingness to travel up to 20%.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws related to health and safety and environmental protection.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan and execute various projects simultaneously.

  • Analytical ability and knowledge of business processes.

  • Ability to create and deliver effective training materials.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Windows Office Suite software.

The Senior Specialist implements initiatives in Health and Safety, Environmental Affairs, and other general areas as designated. The incumbent will assist in the development and review of policies and practices for OSTA and/or its facilities, and work with Legal, Operations and site management to facilitate compliance with company policies and applicable laws and regulations.
