The Engineering Co-Op will be an instrumental part of the R&D team at Olympus Surgical Technologies America (OSTA). OSTA is a business casual, team-oriented atmosphere. Products are developed and managed from Southborough, but manufacturing is performed at other locations. Therefore multi-site discussions via conference calls are required for communication and product development. The co-op’s project work will be directed by the Project Engineer and will contribute to the efforts of the cross-functional team. He/she should be expected to also work independently with minimal supervision in the lab, summarizing data, and writing technical reports. He/she will also be involved with the team meeting where input is encouraged.
As an Engineering Co-Op working in our Research & Development team, you will be empowered and inspired to to do your best work. You will contribute to our mission by working with the teams responsible for delivering product innovations. A typical day for you would include:
Working in the research and development department primarily focused on reusable and single use urology devices such as guidewires, catheters, and stone retrieval devices as well as single use Endoscopic Gastro-Intestinal devices.
Assisting with activities such as creating and modifying designs/drawings utilizing SolidWorks, testing prototype devices for functionality, supporting manufacturing with failure analysis, testing competitive products, writing technical reports, supporting the activities for the Design History file, and giving weekly team updates.
Performing all other essential duties as assigned.

Must be Engineering student who has completed his/her freshman year.
GPA of 3.25 is required.
Good written and verbal communications skills are necessary.
Ability to work in a team atmosphere is necessary.
Mathematical skills in Calculus and Physics are a plus.
Previous work experience in the medical device industry is a plus.
Experience with a CAD design package, preferably SolidWorks is preferred.
Hands-On experience in a lab and shop environment is a plus.
Program is 6 months.
