Job Duties::

As a Global Legal Operations Director working on the Global Legal team, you will be empowered and inspired to do your best work. You will contribute to our mission by developing and optimizing solutions that enhance the Legal Team's ability to advance Olympus' global strategies. In a typical day, you will:

  • Manage outside counsel and other legal vendor relationships, including selection, and provides ongoing support to realize efficiencies in engagements including terms, fee negotiation, budgets, billing, and performance evaluation issues.

  • Work closely with ITS on planning and ongoing system administration to ensure use of current technology for efficient and effective operations; manages relationships with internal and external providers of technology services. Supports e-discovery, litigation holds, and document review processes.

  • Develop appropriate information management tools to assist business partners with the historic information necessary to prevent/manage/mitigate future legal and business risks.

  • Maintain responsibility for developing and overseeing technology usage, creation, storage, and sharing of information (e.g., legal research, transactional documents, historical information).

  • Review and analyze existing processes for the purpose of promoting efficiencies and continuous improvement.

  • Work with departmental leadership and staff on implementation of improvements and change management.

  • Maintain responsibility for financial management and planning; has direct P&L responsibility for all Legal function operating expenses.

  • Maintain responsibility for budgets, accruals, reserve, forecasting, and reporting requirements, leveraging best practices across legal offices.

  • Measure performance against budgets, and provide recommendations to assure adherence to budget.

  • Collaborate closely with business unit finance teams to develop and produce reporting that drives increased financial visibility; identifies trends and anomalies in legal expenses to find potential efficiency opportunities.

  • Identify drivers of legal expenses as well as trends and provide recommendations regarding productivity and process improvement to Leadership team.

  • Serve as the hub for communications and knowledge sharing across the global legal teams.

  • May serve as project manager for key global projects.

  • Organize, oversee and report on legal projects including working group objectives; ensures appropriate cadence of activities and delivery of output.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements::

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree is requires, preferably in finance and/or business; MBA or JD is preferred.

  • Project management certification (e.g., Six Sigma Black Belt).

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in legal operations in a law department/firm or management of in-house legal function.

The Global Legal Operations Director is involved in developing and setting financial objectives for the Global Legal function, as well as managing the budget. The incumbent is also responsible for vendor management, reporting and technology for the Department, and is responsible for establishing policies and procedures that leverage external benchmarks, best practices, and industry knowledge. He/She is responsible for identifying and implementing processes, technology, and programs that standardize and optimize the day-to-day operational efficiency of Olympus legal function around the world.
